Home theater systems have always been about technology. Theater configurations will have the following.
- Visual
- Audio
- Dolby Atmos
- AV Receiver
- System in a Box
Visuals You Need to See:
The latest technology is 4K Ultra HD and flat panel. The 3D fad is over, and smart tv apps are now standard. Manufacturers are creating their best 2D images, and broadcasting technology is starting to catch up. HDR (High Dynamic Range) is another emerging technology to look for. 4K is about resolution; HDR is lifelike in color and contrast. The most advanced technology right now is OLED and QLED. Both are prohibitively priced, and unfortunately, the content has yet to emerge.
- Sony 65-inch 4K Ultra HD Smart Bravia TV. Sony is still the granddaddy of high-end television. The bundle includes the Sony 65 inch and a Sony 7.1.2ch 800W Dolby Atmos soundbar.
Dolby Atmos:
Dolby Atmos is a technology from Dolby Laboratories that moves sound around the room in three-dimensional space. Dolby Atmos adds incredible realism to your movie experience, no waiting on the technology. Dolby Laboratories has been around Audio and Video for decades. At the end of nearly every movie credit will be the Dolby LOGO.
Audio That Needs To Be Heard:
Long gone are the large bulky speaker cabinets and speaker assemblies with paper cones. Several emerging technologies in audio showed up at the 2018 ISE show. One trend was immersive audio. Sound appears from all angles in the room. Other advancements in audio, wireless devices compatible with music streaming services. There was no shortage of speakers and surround sound systems at the show.
- KEF T305 Ultra Thin Home Theater System. KEF has a long history of technological advancements in audio. The T305 audio quality is excellent and will handle any home configuration. This surround 5.1 system is arguably the best available. The ultra-thin speakers measure less than two inches deep.
A/V Receivers Handle Everything:
There is no harder working piece of equipment in the entire system then the R/V receiver. All the video and audio inputs are routed through this one piece of hardware. When you start shopping, make sure it is compatible with the devices you already own or planning to buy. It needs plenty of inputs for future upgrades. There is no one size fits all with this piece of equipment.
- Yamaha AVENTAGE Audio and Video Receiver. Yamaha creates the best receivers on the market. The AVENTAGE works with all the latest technologies including Alexa, Dolby Atmos, 4K HD and plenty of audio and video ports. You can find more expensive units but nothing better.
System in a Box:
All you want to do is hand the salesman a credit card and let the store handle everything. There are plenty of pre-configured bundles that will blow your socks off. Buying guides are plentiful, so take advantage of what is available.
- Dolby Atmos System ideas. The team at Dolby does a great job of outlining all the various components needed to ensure you get the best theater experience in your home.
